DirectMail.com Hosts Chinese Business Delegation on Direct
Mail Industry Fact-Finding Tour
WHAT:
A Chinese business delegation in the direct mail industry visited DirectMail.com's facility
on Skipjack Road in Prince Frederick, Md. on January 21, 2010.
The 20+ member delegation, sponsored by China Post Group (CPG), is visiting the United
States as part of a business exchange program focusing on the U.S. direct mail industry.
Direct mail is a newly emerging and fast developing industry in China, and the China Post
Group is leading the way. The purpose of the visit was to gain a better understanding of U.S.
direct mail practices and to explore the potential for building a partnership between the
businesses. In particular, the group sought to learn about DirectMail.com's (1) market
positioning and service types, (2) online service platform and customer service capabilities
and (3) direct mail product designs.
DirectMail.com officials welcomed the delegation at their facility and provided a
presentation on the genesis of a direct mail campaign, explaining the firm's complete
Internet web-to-print solution. Officials demonstrated its unique GeoSelector™ technology
and actually versioned a direct mail piece yielding a camera-ready PDF file. The presentation
was followed by an hour long question-and-answer period, handled via the group's interpreter.
The delegation was especially interested in data (sources, quality, hygiene, ownership, cost,
profitability) and technology. Both groups enjoyed discussing the similarities and
differences between mail in the two countries. Then the group took a tour of DirectMail.com's
multi-building facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, including Print Production Services,
Data/Data Management Services, Personalization Division and Mailing Services.
The delegation then presented the DirectMail.com officials with silk scarves made in
Hunan Province.
